My little deer

Description

My first start from scratch pattern! All original its mine and I love it! Four legged animals like horses, deer, giraffes always seem like the hardest to do in crochet and make them look realistic. There are a few patterns out there for deer but they never looked like what I wanted. So I buckled down and made it like I wanted! The rest of this description is me being super excited and rambling about why I made it. You can stop here if you want haha.

I think it might be me hanging on to childhood but whenever I make something like this I always think first, how can I make this in a way I can play with it. haha. My favorite thing about toys as a kid was their posability. One of my favorites was a bendy wire dog named Bender. I got it from Barnes and Noble when I was younger and I played with it so much all the legs broke. So when I made this, the first thing I thought of was posability.

It is completely posable with a 2 strand twisted wire skeleton. If I was going to go through all the effort I wanted to be able to pose it! And what and effort it was to make this guy. Lots of ripped out stitches but it was worth it, it makes me appreciate the people I buy other patterns from.

When I make crochet things from patterns I kind of cringe at ones that are a bunch of tubes of different sizes stuck together. Where is the art in that. I wanted it to be smooth and solid as possible. Body and neck are one piece, shaped to go from big body to small neck, angled in a way that makes a chest. I only used one color so I could get the design down first and then go back and add where the color changes need to be.

The back legs though have to be my favorite. Deer and Horses have huge muscles and making them have pencil legs didn't feel right. No one I had seen had made a good example for me to follow so I had to wing it. I love the result. When you bend the back leg it really looks like that huge muscle.

I hope you enjoy seeing him as much as I enjoyed making him. More pictures and poses soon!
