Current the Finnedyr - Crochet by Pickleweasel360 Current the Finnedyr - Crochet by Pickleweasel360
Woo!!! My first crochet Finnedyr! Based on the one I made called Current.

The only thing I changed was to skip the stripes on the legs. The fin is made by single crocheting around a wire then wrapping it and sewing it all together. This shot was tricky to get. I used yarn needles to make a tripod of sorts with the balancing leg. I edited them out since it looked like a big mess lol. Unfortunately I don't have any tiny shells, so I didn't make his necklace yet. I will soon though!

Current lives in the area around the Southern Beach next to the Southern Cliffs. He collects shells of many different varieties. He likes to race with the dolphins whenever possible. Loves to eat shrimp when he can find them.
______________________________________________________________________________

I'm having so much fun with these Finnedyrs. I want to make a koi version in the future also. The next crocheted one will be Omen, who I am trying to work on a back story/role for.

Since he guides souls to the other side, I wanted to make some ghosts to go with him. I was thinking ghost koi or jellyfish to represent the souls. Which would look better? Or maybe one of each but I need one more animal if I'm going to make one of each. What would it be?

Finnedyrs belong to :icongriffsnuff:
This design belongs to me.

EDIT: Since these are a free species I don't feel right about making these for commissions. If you get permission from Griffsnuff herself, then I will be happy to, but only if you get permission since she was kind enough to make these free for all to make for themselves.

I have the pattern, but I'm not releasing it. The fins change each time, so it would just be a basic body pattern if I did. Sorry :c

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to you. These messages get lost in my inbox. I cheated a bit xD I used pins on the back side of the foot to make a tripod sort of. But I did have to make it lean forward a lot so it wouldn't fall over.

Wow, I love this one - really clever way with the fin :D
Did you stitch on the stripes on the back or are those crocheted too?

Thank you so much! Since the stripes can be a variety of shapes, I used a fabric marker to make them.

Forgive me if this is something that you do not want to share, but how tall is it and what size hook do you use?

I use a size E or F hook depending on the yarn, this one was an F. He is a little under 5 inches tall including the ears and 7 inches long from nose to tail when standing normally.

Well since Griff made these a free species, I wouldn't feel right about it. If you were to get her permission though, I would be happy to. Nectar would be interesting to make, I love that little swirl and flower on her back.

I think a koi would be the better ghost, mostly since there is something mysterious about koi but also in Japan they have myths about some turning into dragons/or being dragons in disguise. I believe I read story once where the koi was a reincarnation of a girl's mother and helped her through life. Plus they are so graceful!!! While a jellyfish is brilliant they really isn't any mythology behind them, and they are super bad ass but to me they remind me of rejuvenation due to the fact there is a jellyfish that is technically immortal since it can revert to it's younger form then grow up again. Which would seem like it would be a good candidate to be a ghost but I feel since they have the ability to not die, it just doesn't make sense to make it a ghost. But it is your choice and I'd love to see either or :3 Also Current is absolutely dazzling! I love his face the most, with his smile :D

Thats what I thought of first. A few of them swimming beside him white and see thru would be hauntingly beautiful. I had heard something along the lines of them turning into dragons, but I didn't remember until you mentioned it. They jellyfish were Junes idea. I like that they are mysterious anyway, plus being see thru they already remind me of ghosts. I would use the tentacles to touch the Finnedyr or hold on to his tail so they wouldn't lose their way. There are so many good things about each one so I'm on the fence about it.

And thank you! :D

:D I had to remind myself about the dragons too since I've heard it but it wasn't on the tip of my memory. I agree that jellyfish are rather mysterious as well as super fun to watch move about, which makes me want to have a farm of jellyfish O.O Not sure what the point would be besides watching them haha. I like the idea that they use their touch to hold on to the Finnedyr. They both are super fantastic ideas. :la:

You're very welcome ^.^
